The OrthoCor story
It started with a breakthrough discovery: Pulsed Shortwave Therapy (PST) technology could help relieve knee pain. That discovery –– the result of a collaboration between Dr. Jagi Gill, Dr. Darryl Barnes at the Mayo Clinic, and a group of University of Minnesota graduate students –– soon became a patented device: the first iteration of the Knee Active System. A revolutionary idea had become a tangible pain management solution.
In 2007, Dr. Gill founded OrthoCor Medical. Over the next ten years, nine Active Systems were developed and launched to treat the nine major parts of the body. As of 2019, Active System devices are classified by the U.S. FDA as non-thermal shortwave diathermy.
As the clinical evidence behind PST grew, and as the demand for PST-enabled pain relief increased, OrthoCor expanded its product offerings to include Activ8, an all-in-one system with no disposable components and improved PST therapy signal clarity.
